The Dancer is a handmade quilled Bharatanatyam dance greeting card, featuring a dancer's leg in classical stamping pose with golden salangai ankle bells, a red alta-painted foot, and a coral-striped costume hem. Every visible surface is hand-quilled. The card frames the dancer's lower body, the part of Bharatanatyam that does the most work. Built in Jaffna, where Tamil dance heritage is still part of everyday cultural life.

Built from the floor up.
Red is the most-worn color of Bharatanatyam costume, recognized across centuries of temple performance. The card frames the leg from the costume hem down to the toes, the area where the dance actually happens. Hands and face matter, but the floor is where the rhythm is built. The cluster of golden coils is the salangai, the dancer's ankle bells, built one coil per bell.
The bells cluster alone is built from several connected S-scrolls. Each is set close to the next, the way the bells string on the actual salangai.

What does the design on this card depict?
What is paper quilling?
The craft of rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper into coils, scrolls, and petals, then arranging them into a raised design. Every shape on this card was formed by hand.
Is the inside of the card blank?
Yes. The inside is always blank so you can write your own message. Some designs carry a small printed wish on the cover top, which is noted on the product page.
Can I frame this card after gifting?
Yes. Every Vonderly card is 5 x 5 inches and fits standard frames sold at most US home stores, and the raised quilling holds real depth behind glass. A shadow box frame gives the elements the most room. Keep it out of direct sunlight.
How long does shipping take to the United States?
