Some people gave years to an art. The Dancer is a handmade quilled dance greeting card, a single Bharatanatyam leg in a classical stamping pose, with gold salangai at the ankle and a foot outlined in the red of alta. Coral pleats and red costume fabric frame the pose.

The design
The salangai are dozens of coils rolled small and chained tight enough to read as metal from across a room. Everything else is restraint. The leg is two red strips on edge, the foot a single outline, and more than half the card is left empty.

The moment
For the dancer in the family, the teacher who trained her, or the student whose debut recital the whole family travelled for. It reads as respect rather than decoration, which is rare in cards that reference classical dance at all. Send it for a performance, or send it because the training itself deserves acknowledging.

I work on the lines and the finishing. Single strips of paper, pinched into the shape we need. Finishing is the last step before a card leaves the studio, so I have to look at everything carefully. If something is not right, I redo it before passing it on.

Paper quilling is the art of rolling, shaping and arranging narrow strips of paper to create raised designs. On Vonderly cards, each visible quilled element is shaped and placed by hand rather than printed.
How long does it take to make a Vonderly card?
A Vonderly card typically takes around 90 minutes of handwork. Different parts may pass through specialist hands for shaping, detailing and assembly before the finished card is checked and packed.
What comes with each card?
Each card measures 5 × 5 inches, is blank inside for your own message, and comes with a 5.25 × 5.25-inch kraft envelope.
What if my card arrives damaged?
We replace it at no cost, and you keep the original. Email hello@vonderly.com within 30 days of delivery with a photo, and we ship a replacement or issue a refund. There is nothing to send back.
